Resorts World Las Vegas - How to Party Like You’re 30.
My sister and I recently traveled to Vegas for 2 nights to fulfill her 30th birthday wish of an “Old Lady Vegas Trip.” After all the previous 20-something trips with nightclubs and cheap drinks and eating breakfast in the afternoon, she wanted pools, spas, shows, and fancy food to be the theme. Plus, we wanted to see Garth Brooks (if you’ve read my other blogs, you would know that the obsession runs deep). Maybe it’s a problem, but it was awesome and I loved it, so no problem for me!
But it means I get to tell you all about what to do if you have 2 nights to spend in Vegas, particularly at Hilton’s Resorts World.
Where to Stay
Well, obviously we stayed at Hilton Resorts World. But. Resorts World has three hotels in one HUGE building. The Las Vegas Hilton, Conrad Las Vegas, and Crockfords Las Vegas. We stayed at the Las Vegas Hilton because, hi, teacher salary. The rooms were lovely, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a rain showerhead. It had the least expensive rooms, but still felt luxurious.
Things to Do
Soak up the sunshine at one of the pools. We recommend the Athena Infinity Ultra Pool because it’s adults only, but if you have kids or want to be around them on your vacation, there are four other pools to choose from that are all pretty awesome. I’d get there early before the sun gets too hot and the sunscreen from other people’s bodies makes the pool funky. They also have poolside massage services and food/drink delivery available.
If you don’t want to get a massage in front of everybody at the pool (hi, me), get a massage or a facial at the Awana Spa and use ALL the amenities. Steam showers, dry saunas, salt rooms, hot and cold pools, and snacks!
See Garth Brooks at Caesar’s Palace…or any other Vegas show (there are a bunch of shows at Resorts World too). Do it. Vegas shows are awesome. And a requirement of any too-old-for-the-club-but-we-still-like-to-party trip.
Have afternoon tea at the Waldorf Astoria. Okay, this one is outside of Resorts World, but we had such a great experience I have to share it. We made reservations and each got to enjoy a pot of tea, a peach bellini, and all the tiny snacks. Plus we had a lovely view of the Strip through the floor-to-ceiling windows!
What to eat
There are a ton of places to eat and drink within Resorts World. We recommend:
Alle on 66th - A cocktail bar on the top floor of the hotel, also with floor-to-ceiling windows (I’m sensing a theme here) and a swanky vibe. We got dressed up (which shows our millennialism apparently) and ordered fancy drinks way past our bedtime while we looked out over the Strip. I HIGHLY recommend the cookie butter espresso martini.
The Kitchen - A more casual place to eat, great for going to breakfast in your sweats and no makeup face. I ate a breakfast skillet and requested additional veggies instead of the meat/eggs, and ended up with the biggest pile of vegetables I’ve ever seen. And it was delicious.
Famous Foods Street Eats - This place was cool to walk around in, though we didn’t enjoy the food (veggie options were hard to find). But it was set up like a big street food slash food truck fair with all different types of gourmet Asian cuisine.
Classroom Impact
Friend. You know a weekend in Vegas is for getting OUT of the classroom and not thinking about work. But, you also know that I was thinking about you and therefore had to think about work. And every time I looked at the Las Vegas Strip, you know what I thought of? Room transformations!
All of these themed hotels are such a huge part of the vibe of Vegas and are totally where the magic comes from. Transforming our classrooms can have the same effect on our students’ experiences.
Whether it’s turning your classroom into a “restaurant” so the students can have a book tasting, using blacklights and caution tape during an escape room activity, or designing a jungle safari to study dinosaur fossils, a great theme (or costume!) can elevate a lesson in the same way these hotels add magic to the Las Vegas Strip.
That wraps up our 2 nights at Resorts World Las Vegas. I love Vegas as an early summer destination - especially now that we spend our days drinking tea and getting massages. Where do you like to visit as soon as school’s out?
